About Painless Pete & Staff
Peter “Painless” Schindelholz, D.D.S.
The oldest of five boys, Peter was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until moving up to Rhinelander in 1969 with his parents and brothers. After graduating from Rhinelander High School (yes, he was a Hodag!) he went on to UW Madison to earn his BS in Zoology in 1975. With a scientific mind, and knowing he liked to work with his hands, Painless chose dentistry. Graduating from Marquette Dental School in 1979, he bought the practice in Land O’ Lakes that summer. Always curious about why some teeth wore down or broke more than others, and wanting to stop or slow down that process, Painless took additional courses in the early 90’s from the Dawson Center for Advancement of Dentistry and the Pankey Institute. He built his state of the art, log dental office in 1992. Painless is a member of ADA, WDA, CWDS, Chicago Dental Society, Phelps Lions Club, both the Land O’ Lakes and Watersmeet Chamber of Commerce and the Land O’ Lakes Fish and Game Club. He has served as President of Vilas County Chamber of Commerce and the Land O’ Lakes Lions Club. Currently, Painless is chairman of The Three Bear Sled Dog Races and Games and is in charge of shooting off the famous “Land O’ Lakes Fireworks” every July 3rd, something he has been doing since 1981. Married over 25 years to Diane, they have two grown daughters. An avid downhill skier, he also likes to fish, bike and hunt just about anything, especially pheasants with his dog Anna. “I love taking courses in dentistry; especially in comprehensive care which enables me to do Cosmetic, Reconstructive and TMJ work. I hope to practice dentistry for a long time Lord willing. The more I do it, the more I enjoy it.”
Laura M. Schindelholz, D.D.S.
Laura M. Schindelholz, DDS joined the practice in summer of 2014, but this is not the first time she has been to our office. As the daughter of Painless, she has been around this office and dentistry all of her life. “I love this area. I love the people and the pace. And I love working to make a positive difference in their lives. I could never see myself anywhere else,” she said.
Dr. Laura was born and raised in Land O’ Lakes and is a “05 graduate of Northland Pines. She completed her undergraduate work at UW Madison with a degree in Anthropology, where she was part of PHI Beta Kappa Honor Society. She graduated from Marquette Dental School in spring of 2014 where she had been on the Dean’s List. While there she was nominated by the faculty and won the Wisconsin International College of Dentists “David Sampe Award.” Since the age of 14, she has accompanied her Dad on Dental mission trips to Haiti annually.
“I love the rural concept of dentistry” says Dr. Laura, “where I can provide all types of dental services to my patients, thus saving them trips to specialists that are out of our area. I think rural towns have an advantage of building a great patient/doctor relationship. We share the same community.”
Dr. Laura is a current member of the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association and the Central Wisconsin Study Forum. She has been an active volunteer at the Three Bear Sled Dog Races and Games held annually in Land O’ Lakes.
Every season in the outdoors hold something for Dr. Laura. “From hunting, fishing and snowmobiling to just plain walking are things I have always enjoyed,” she said. When away from the office, she enjoys baking, cooking, crafting and volleyball.
Holly - Practice Administrator
After working for Painless since 1983, Holly says “I’m still learning!” Starting as his dental assistant, Holly has seen a lot of changes in dentistry and has gotten to know a lot of people. “Some of my best friends today I met while they were in the dental chair!” She said “Dentistry is a profession that is always changing and being around the doctor, you can’t help but continue to learn. He’s a great teacher!” Today, Holly serves as the office manager, lab technician and still assists two days a week. She lives in the woods around Eagle River with her husband Michael. They have two grown sons. She is a member of the First Congregational Church and the Eagle River Historical Society. She is a past member of The Three Bear Sled Dog Races and Games and the Artarama Committee. In her spare time, Holly enjoys reading, antiquing, photography and decorating.
Regina - Business Coordinator
Regina started working for Painless in 1998 as a Dental Assistant and became his Business Coordinator in 2009. She still assists both the doctor and the hygienist from time to time but really enjoys the daily contact she has with patients, and helping them with their appointment, payment and insurance needs. Born and raised in Phelps, Wisconsin, Regina pursued a career in nursing before finding her “niche” in dentistry. Seeing smiles transform and hearing how we make our patients feel “like family” is what she loves most about her job. She also enjoys working with her co-workers. “We just plain have a good time together!” Regina still lives in Phelps with her husband and two children. She volunteers for various clubs in and around her community. She is an avid reader, enjoys camping and attending craft shows but finds being involved in her children’s various activities the most rewarding.
Sue (aka Suzzz) - Dental Assistant
In 1995, Sue found her position working for Painless. She started managing the sterilization area, but after one year, moved into dental assisting and has been sitting alongside the doctor ever since. “What I love the most about my job here is to see how appreciative so many of our patients are. Many even give Doctor a hug!” she said. Born and raised in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sue and her husband moved to the north woods to raise their family and are finishing building a new home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. They have three grown sons and seven grandchildren. In her spare time, Sue likes to cook, garden and ride her Harley.
Abbie - Dental Hygienist
Fun and spunky, Abbie joined the practice in June 2012. During her first meeting with Painless, Abbie gushed about …well, teeth! "I love teeth! I’ve been obsessed with them as long as I can remember!" Born and raised in Merrill, WI, Abbie went to school at Northern Michigan University for Forensic Science and UW Stevens Point for Laboratory Science before getting her degree in Dental Hygiene from Northcentral Technical College. "I really enjoy educating my patients about different techniques in oral hygiene. I love working with people so with that and my passion about teeth, dental hygiene has been a perfect fit for me." Abbie’s other passion is her two year old son, Brayden! Together they enjoy camping, baking and hanging out at the beach!
Billie Jo - Dental Hygienist
Billie Jo has worked in the dental field since 1996. She started as a dental assistant and found dentistry so interesting that she graduated in 2004 from North Central Technical College with her degree in Dental Hygiene and has been working ever since. She has filled in over the years in our Hygiene Department. So, as we’ve grown, we asked Billie to join our practice on a part time basis in early 2013 and she gladly accepted.
Billie Jo loves living in the Northwoods. When she is not riding around on her Harley, she can be found fishing, hunting, camping or volunteering in many community events. Her favorite pass time though is to hang out with friends and family and her best four-legged pal “Grizz.”
Billie Jo said she enjoys all aspects of working in a dental practice. But the one she likes the most is developing not only good relationships with her patients, but friendships also.
